Pro-Board XPS insulation boards

Pro-Board is a lightweight XPS construction board with a cement coating, specifically developed for electric underfloor heating. Thanks to their high insulating value and strong surface, your floor heats up faster and you save energy.

Benefits of insulation boards for underfloor heating

  • Up to 40% energy savings
  • Rapid heating of the floor
  • Water-resistant – suitable for both wet and dry rooms
  • Ready for immediate finishing with tile adhesive or leveling compound
  • Lightweight and easy to work with

Why use insulation boards under underfloor heating?

Without insulation, some heat is lost to the subfloor instead of heating the room. By laying insulation boards first, you direct almost all the heat upward into the room. The result: your floor warms up faster, the thermostat doesn't need to run as long, and you consume less electricity. Especially on cold or absorbent surfaces like concrete, insulation under electric underfloor heating makes a huge difference in both comfort and your energy bill.

How does an XPS insulation board work?

XPS stands for extruded polystyrene, a strong and moisture-resistant insulating material. Pro-Board panels are coated with cement on both sides, allowing them to be finished immediately with tile adhesive or leveling compound. You lay the heating cables or mats on the insulation boards, preventing heat from sinking down and reflecting it back into the room. This makes your underfloor heating more efficient, ensuring you get the maximum return from every kilowatt-hour.

Which insulation board thickness should you choose?

Pro-Board is available in various thicknesses, such as 6 mm and 10 mm. A thin insulation board keeps your floor build-up as low as possible and is ideal for renovations where height is limited. A thicker board offers a higher insulation value, resulting in even faster heating and greater savings. Unsure which thickness best suits your floor and room? Use our selection guide or contact us.

Insulation under electric underfloor heating in the bathroom

Because XPS insulation boards are water-resistant, you can use them in both dry and wet areas. Insulation pays for itself quickly in the bathroom, as the floor heats up quickly and stays comfortable for longer. In the living room or kitchen, the boards also form a solid, insulating base under a wide range of floor finishes, including tiles, PVC, and laminate.

Installing insulation boards in a few steps

Laying insulation boards is straightforward and requires no special tools. Simply place the lightweight boards tightly against each other on a clean, level surface, secure them with the appropriate adhesive, and finish the seams. After that, you can immediately proceed to installing your heating mats or complete set. Thanks to their low weight and ease of finishing, you save both time and effort during installation.
